Spirometry (Inequalities programme / reducing inequalities)
Spirometry is a diagnostic test that is completed to confirm if a patient has COPD and/or Asthma. The aim of this project is to establish a spirometry hub to ensure efficient access to quality spirometry, as there has been a gap in delivery identified across NCL.
Key elements of the programme would include:
Provision across Islington with virtual hubs based on a Primary Care Networks or locality footprint, with the ability to offer spirometry in different GP surgeries on different days of the week. Initial clinics will be focused on patients in the North localities due to high deprivation rates.
Clinical supervision, advice, and support from the respiratory community team in the Whittington Health NHS Trust, including their specialist nursing team/respiratory consultants.
Ensuring practice-based HCAs, pharmacists and practice nurses are funded to complete the ARTP (Association for Respiratory, Technology & Physiology) accreditation and be offered opportunities to shadow the community respiratory clinics locally.
