Community ENT
Islington Community Ear, Nose and Throat Service is the longest running service that Islington GP Federation (IGPF) manages. It provides specialist ear, nose and throat (ENT) appointments in community settings. Patients can be referred into the service by their own GP and it hopefully saves them from needing to attend an appointment in hospital.
There are a mix of clinical roles working in the service.
General Practitioners with Extended Roles (GPwER) – These are GPs who have studied for an additional year to become specialists in ENT.
Audiologists – Located at the same clinic as the GPwERs, they provide hearing tests for patients attending appointments for ear problems. They also run some microsuction clinics for wax-removal.
Physician Associates – Medical professionals who are supervised by GPs and, in our service, run microsuction clinics.
The service is clinically led by Dr Bengi Beyzade, an experienced ENT GPwER and IGPF Executive. Further clinical supervision is provided by Mr Alam Hannan, a Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist with the Royal National ENT Hospital, part of the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also the Medical Education Lead for ENT.
In Islington, clinics are held at 3 locations: Bingfield Health Centre, Hornsey Rise Health Centre and Islington Central Medical Centre. Recently, the service has been engaged by The Whittington Hospital for support in seeing patients on their waiting lists that are appropriate for the ENT community service. These clinics are based at West Green Surgery on Green Lanes.
